OVERVIEW
For this project, I developed Urturn, a 28-page print magazine specifically designed for the board gaming community. My goal was to move beyond the standard review format and create an immersive, tactile experience where the publication itself feels like a game. I designed the entire magazine from the ground up, including the brand identity system, a custom 9x9 modular grid, feature spreads, and marketing collateral that captures the spirit of tabletop play.
CONCEPT
The concept for Urturn—derived from the phrase "Your Turn"—focuses on the interactive nature of gaming. I developed a visual language that incorporates game board elements, dice, and cards directly into the editorial layout. After researching competitors like Senet and Casual Game Insider, I identified a need for stronger brand consistency and more dynamic imagery. I utilized a high-energy palette and a tiered typographic system (including Arbotek as a foundational element) to balance playfulness with readability. The final product features "organized chaos" in the back briefs and a structured, board-game-inspired table of contents, successfully transforming complex hobbyist content into an engaging, cohesive brand world.
