OVERVIEW
For this project, I developed a cohesive wayfinding and digital ecosystem to unify BUS (Bar Under the Sun), a historic Downtown Corpus Christi transit hub, into a modern "campus" of fun. Situated in the repurposed shell of a former Greyhound Bus Station, the venue faced operational friction and "entry panic" due to its fragmented, multi-zone layout. I established a comprehensive identity system—including large-scale murals, clear "Crossroads" signage, and a mobile app—to transform the space into an effortlessly managed destination where transit history is built upon rather than erased.
Brand Idenitity Update
To establish a unified brand ecosystem for BUS, I developed a visual identity that bridges the historical legacy of the transit hub with its modern function as a social campus. The identity is built on three distinct but harmonious styles designed to guide different guest personas through the venue
Halftone Imagery Style: I utilized a halftone aesthetic to pay direct homage to the mid-century vintage photography of the original Greyhound Bus Station.
Vibrant Illustration Style: For the Hattie’s Ice Cream sub-brand, I created playful mascots and a bright color palette to engage younger visitors and reinforce the venue's family-friendly mission.
Simple Geometric Style: I developed a minimal geometric framework to act as the "glue" for the ecosystem, blending the vintage and modern elements into a cohesive ideation that oversees the entire growing brand.
Bus Stop Signage: This acts as the most critical directional tool in the venue, placed specifically at high-confusion points to provide immediate navigation.
Status Indicators: I developed "Open/Closed" signage to manage expectations at a distance, ensuring guests don't walk toward a closed service window.
Sandwich Boards: These are strategically positioned to engage guests during "dead time"—such as while waiting for friends or parking—to educate them on the unified app system and wayfinding connections.
BUS Mobile App
Operational Flow: I developed this system to allow users to check the venue map, start a single tab, and order drinks or food from multiple service points in one digital transaction.
Engagement Flow: Beyond transactions, the app features a "History Scanner" for the original Greyhound station and a "Barpass" for open gaming with other patrons to increase social interaction.
Integrated Wayfinding: The app acts as a pocket-sized navigation tool, expanding on the physical "Crossroads" signage to ensure the "campus" feels accessible even during peak hours.
Wait Area Redefinition: Near the restrooms, I transitioned the space from high-top tables to low bench seating, creating a more inviting waiting area that serves as a functional part of the physical flow.
Hattie’s Bus Ticket
Heritage Bridge: This physical ticket serves as a tactile connection between the venue's transit history and the younger demographic.
Gamified Journey: Children can interact with the ticket by collecting stickers featuring custom mascots, turning a simple purchase into a daily adventure through the cocktail garden.
The Flagship Mural serves as the final, large-scale visual anchor that unifies the entire campus under a single identity system. Strategically placed at the Tasty’s Kitchen location, this mural transforms a functional food stall into a landmark that literally acknowledges the "Bar Under the Sun" name.
